Rose' and Flintstone Steaks to Finish the Day

 August 6, 2021

Carvoreino, Portugal

Up at 7:00 am and got started with breakfast on our deck. A quick run to the grocery store for  some chocolate croissants. So affordable for some special items like croissants ($.65), olives ($2.50 for a pound), baguette ($.69) and St. Auger (back home, $35 a pound and here $3.50). Gas is a different story at $7.00 a gallon!

Our area has a cute town and beach, but thought it would be fun to head south to Point Sagres, just 45 minutes away. It is very pretty with beautiful beaches, but so much wind.  Not sure if it is just the day or if this is what is to be expected I noticed rows of rocks about 7 feet long and 1-2 feet tall spaced out along the beach with people all on the same side of the rocks.  I think it must be from sand and wind protection. Lots of amazing kite boarding too. The cliffs are straight up and down, jagged and a beautiful red shade. A little lunch a beach restaurant.  Stepped off the beach and to the table 5 feet away and we were asked to put the masks on. A sweet waiter brought the fish out on a platter for us to choose from. I asked if I could take a picture of him and said SMILE! Not sure that he thought I was all that funny since everyone seems tired of being masked up, but he gave a courtesy laugh. We tried the moon fish - beautiful white flesh and cooked perfectly. Very serious about their mask wearing here.  Visited a fort out on the point and back home we went.

On the patio we had a picnic and bubbly rose sangria. We love all the salumi and cheeses here! Check out this salami encrusted with capers. Beautiful and tasty!

A nice wrap up to the afternoon. A quick nap for all of us around 6:00 pm. I knew this was a bad idea, but everyone was exhausted. An hour in and everyone but Hudson got up. We woke him at least six times but no luck. We enjoyed a beautiful Flintstone size steak, mushrooms and potatoes that Andy barbecued on the deck, a beautiful evening.

Then a quick bounce into town for some gelato. Lots of places but one had a particularly long line. We figured this must be the place and we were right! So creamy and delicious. They said 6 euros and Saylor said that is what it is back home, but then I pointed out that is for two! I could see her mind working and thinking then we can get it twice as much!

I love the energy of this fun beach town at night. Everyone survived the heat of the day and are out to be social and take it all in. Such a great vibe!

Our cute town!
