Best Night in Sri Lanka

December 12, 2018

Our final full day in Sri Lanka.  I woke up to the loud waves just outside our door.  a quick bite and we were off on a snorkeling boat.  A private boat and gear for the four of us was only $50.  A small boat in comparison to the big swells, time for another adventure.  We went to Jungle Beach.  It was pretty the thing is though that there was a garbage on the beach and in the water.  Unfortunately, the coral was dead too.  We saw a few cool fish though.  Made me appreciate the other snorkeling we have done and the beauty that survives when you do what you can to keep your environment green. Saylor was playing in the sand and I asked her to be extremely careful because we saw syringes and then when we got back to the beach we started from Hudson pointed out a needle.

A 3 hour car ride back to Negombo.  We are back in the hotel we stayed in the first night we landed, Morning Star.

We just got back from a super fun night out.  Boys hit the beach for a bit. A car from a local spa came and picked us up.  Drove for about 10 minutes in the opposite direction of any tourist stuff.  Pulled through some big gates and into a beautiful spa.  Hudson, Andy and I  had a 40 minute massage for $9.00 each.

The driver dropped us off at a restaurant called Lords.  Loved it....kind of felt like a really upscale prom crossed with a nightclub.  There were lots of lights,  cardboard stars and paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling.  Food was great but the best part was they had an area in the back where you can dunk your hands and feet in with the sucker fish.

I faced my fear of fish and did it.  Andy, Hudson and Saylor all loved it.  Followed up with some quick souvenir shopping and gelato.  We went local and took a tuk-tuk ride back to our hotel.  Girls had their own and boys had theirs.  I swear the drivers were racing.   A super fun night out!

I am a bit torn overall about our time here in Sri Lanka. The smell of what I think was garbage burning and the bugs were a little much. The food got to me for a bit but then we found some places that helped me get through that.  I wouldn't trade it and am so glade we came though.  It is an exotic island that offers so many majestic things from some pristine beaches, every shade and texture of green foliage,  beautiful temples, genuine hospitality and some of the warmest smiles ever.
