An Island Paradise, Sri Lanka

December 6th, 2018

After almost 19 hours of travel time from first takeoff to last landing (3 hours from Hanoi to KL and then 3 1/2 hour flight to Sri Lanka) we are here on an island paradise!  Sat at the front of the plane so we could get right to customs, which we did but there was an issue with Saylor's Visa.  Once that all got sorted out we found our driver (holding a sign "The Lemke Family") and off for a 20 minute car to our great little place, The Morning Star in Negombo. I love Trip Advisor.  We find these great places with the most amazing staff.  Our beds have mosquito nettings and we have two bathrooms.  We were all exhausted last night and fell into our beds, but this morning I opened a door that lead to our outdoor bathroom.  What a funny surprise.

Upul picked us up and we drove for 3 hours to Kandy.  We visited the Sacred Temple of the Tooth Relic.  That just cracks me up....Kandy and tooth relic.  :-) We went to lunch and ordered many things but ended up eating only a few of them.

Lots of traffic! Not as crazy as Hanoi, but still crazy and busy.  Driving we saw an elephant in the back of a truck, an elephant and cows hanging out on the side of the road, lots of people in vibrant colored traditional dress, lots going without shoes. tuk tuks everywhere but they call them 3 wheels and some cool painted buses with disco lights.

3 more hours of driving.  The roads feel very dangerous.  There is a cliff on one side, it was really dark, big vehicles that are forced to go on your side just so they can make the turn and so so so many turns. The road to Hana in Hawaii is nothing compared to this. The kids were really good and never complained once.  All of our stomachs had had enough as we arrive at a homestay in Nuwara Hills.
