The power kept going out last night so there were definitely moments of the room being hot and it was very dark. Overall it was a good night of sleep except poor Hudson has a ton of bug bites and itched all night.
Up and had breakfast on the beach. Kids swam and we checked out and went to our new hotel about 15 minutes down the road, Esperanza Beach. It is overlooking the picturesque Seenimodera Bay. It is a beautiful two story room with a nice patio. We overlook the ocean. Once again, they are extremely nice here. Ordered lunch while the boys body surfed and we ate on our patio. I went to the beach and on the way I saw a bunch of monkeys in the trees above me. Now I know what that noise was on our roof. A great start to another spot.
Finally got a chance to work on a good chunk of homework. So hard to do when we are so busy and aren't sleeping much. We don't want the kids to fall behind, but so much to see, learn and do at each place I feel torn.
A round of skim boarding and off to dinner. Went to a little place (three tables) that is of course family owned. I need to ask for the restroom and poked my head behind the curtain and there was no kitchen. Hmmm, finally someone came out and I asked for the restroom. I was shown the way. I then realized the restaurant kitchen is the kitchen in their actual house and I believe the restroom (with shower) I used was the one for the house even though it was it's own building.
After dinner we went for a walk down what feels like restaurant row along the beach. There are a number of small locally owned little stores too that have fruit/drinks/ice cream. I have seen so many men wearing sarongs and shirtless working in them. They look happy and appear very comfortable I would guess. I mean who wouldn't like that dress code? This one had a tuk-tuk parked out front. That's normal but the driver had a monkey tied to a leash - like a dog. The monkey was aggressive and very active swinging and jumping everywhere. Just another night here in Sri Lanka.
Every time we go to dinner it is starting to feel like deva ju. They all offer seafood, curry, noodle and rice dishes and salads. Nope, not having the fresh salads! No beef, on the menu. I so want a steak or burger! Hmm, I'm realizing no pork either. We always refuse the glasses. They often aren't fully dry and have a few drips of water in them and don't want to chance that. They serve scrambled eggs in a half dome shape. This morning on a leaf. A damp leaf. Then of course I have to ask myself....are the eggs that touched that wet leaf safe to eat? The overall hygiene of it all is always in the back of my mind. Four days in and I am tired of the same food every day and worrying about if it is safe. 3 1/2 days left of it.
As we were driving back I was thinking how every time we go to a place we pull off the main road, go down some jungle like area that feels very sketchy and then a gate appears. We honk the horn, the gate opens, we are guided in and there is some unique place with amazing people ready to greet us with a welcome drink.
